The Oregon Maple Project — an educational nonprofit based in Colton —offers a seasonal Sugaring Collective. Members receive training and equipment to tap their own trees, season-long communication, and a
chance to contribute to a community boil, producing their own bottles of Bigleaf Maple syrup. Orientation is on 1/4/26, so sign up soon!

Barker, OSU Extension ForesterMany people responded to the survey sent out last December that they were interested in learning
more about thinning forest stands. Jake Barker, OSU Extension Forester for Washington, Yamhill and
Columbia Counties will address this important issue at the January 27 meeting.
Jake will review the concepts of forest stand thinning, including competition and density, timing, and
operations. He will also discuss the logistics of how to implement a thinning project on your propertyaswell as the different equipment used and how to schedule thinning in your management cycle.
